about: the lazy daze of a paperback writer

Publishing every Friday [thereabouts] about the days of an author. I tribulate and trivialise writing life, review music gigs & theatre, and outburst about random news articles – all the while riding a bike and smoking a pipe. This is me – disproving that writers just laze about in bed, watching TV!

Breaking down barriers and stereotypes.

Fall in love with Chromeo

...and into the light.

“…Chromeo pulls off their live set with the right balance of slick, sleek and smooooth. The only imbalance was P-thugg’s Sonny to Dave1’s Cher. Dave1 with his foppish dark curls and shades overshadowed P-Thugg’s push buttons, but it still was just right. When Dave1 enthused the crowd to clap, we clapped. When Dave1 charmed the crowd to scream, we screamed. And P-Thugg punctuated each command with a synthed, ‘oh yeah!’”

The only thing scarier than real life is The Powerhouse of Terror

“…It’s a real psyche ward, with real people popping out of and skulking around dark corners, complete with a real coffin to simulate being buried alive for visitors…My friend was wrong – you don’t have a scare limit. The anticipation and anxiety of the other houses keep building and feeding off each other.”
[Review of Powerhouse of Terror Charity Haunt - 3 Haunted Houses @ Power House Recreation Centre, Humber College, Kipling, Canada - Thursday, 13 October to Monday, 31 October 2011 (except Tue, Wed and Thurs)]

Searching for my ego…

“…In an age where faces were replaced by books, and now books are replaced by Facebook, cries of privacy are louder than ever…I recently checked the ‘back end’ of my Google Analytics to see what drives traffic to my website/blog.”
[Post about the ego-crashing search terms that lead ppl to my blog.]

Viva la Electronica Trifecta! Neon Indian w Com Truise, Purity Ring

“…The crowd were in a trippy, juxtaposed time-warp. Each set brought an old-time familiarity [Purity Ring – childhood innocence, Com Truise – 80s montage, Neon Indian – old-school resonance] but this is music way ahead of its time. Each artist brought entirely different sounds to the system and to the norm in general; their groundbreaking beats uniting instead of dividing.”

Boys give thanks to pilgrims, their lucky stars [and PETA] for nudity

“…Not quite scandalous as scantily-clad, but PETA is at it again. Provocatively dressed female Pilgrim PETA volunteers handed out tofurkey in their eternal struggle bid to turn people vegan.”
[Outburst post about PETA's Canadian Thanksgiving campaign - sexy pilgrims giving out free tofurkey. Appeal factor? Only for the birds.]

When law goes from boring to ker-razy

“…Mental incapacity and a stock-broker who saw Jesus Christ as the inspiration of choosing multi-million stock options for her prestigious clients – and was still deemed capable under the eyes of the law!”

Sexy beasts

“…is my dismissal of PETA’s awareness tactic and .xxx site because it offends me as a woman? Actually it offends me as a buck-passing, finger-pointing, sheep-following, people-pleasing, guilt avoiding individual who happens to be female by making ppl feel guilty that not only are they viewing x rated material, they don’t care about animals.”
[Post about PETA using a .xxx site to convey their message of anti-cruelty to animals. Ah, I get it. I think.]

To read or not to read – is that even a question?

“…Disturbing report that when kids were asked whether they read books, they answered only social media and text messages. Um. This is not reading. This is akin to saying you read every morning as you stare at the cereal box mindlessly munching. That is not a newspaper (though prob same nutritional value) – just as Twitter is not a book. ”

Mayor despair

“…And I thought kids who participated in these “Be a [insert debatably credible profession here] for a day” were meant to be gifted.”
