Malaysian in Neutral Bay
M is for Malaysian
Ginger and Spice, 240 Military Road, Neutral Bay
Organised by SEZ on Friday night, February 2010
7 Manics
The Originals minus Alanna and Dave (We are slowly dying though! And soon, Ari and Sez will have to replace the two boys as the new Originals!), Nat and two of Sez’s friends, Toula and Julia.
Special occasion was Sez’s 25th birthday!
In the Mess Hall
Ginger and Spice is more Singaporean Malaysian, but given it was Mardi Gras night we were avoiding any city venue, and anything on the fringe (Pyrmont, King Street Wharf) was all booked out. Plus any Asian restaurant was pretty busy due to it also being Chinese New Year.
Stand outs were roti (Sez’s favourite), Hainan Chicken Rice (my grandfather is from Hainan Island, where this dish hails from!), beef rending, belachan (was impressed my friends acquired a taste for this) and yummy gula melaka!

7.5/10
Pros: Great food and new company! Fun, fun, fun.
Cons: Sad to see our numbers dwindling, especially as we learned Adrian was going to the UK indefinitely. The city was all a bit crazy and we were running late.
FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE NIGHT:
Sez ruining the surprise trip Toula had planned for her partner, Julia, to Fiji.
Toula: Oh, yes, you leave for Fiji in a few days.
Sez: Yes, and you guys are going this Friday! Yay! What a great present for Julia!
Julia: What?
Toula: You idiot! I told you it was a surprise, four times! [turns to Julia]. Surprise, babe! We’re going to Fiji!

SURPRISE! Not really...
After party antics
Dancing at La Cita with Sez’s friends. Always fun and extremely hot on the dance floor.
Adrian and Nat back to mine for falling asleep in the middle of Labyrinth.
Sweet dreams are made of these…
Eating: Royal Gala apple.
Drinking: Peppermint tea
Listening: to Stereophonics‘ cover of Handbags and Gladrags. Love this song, love Kelly’s voice!
