And a bit about writing…

Nine days in the city that doesn’t sleep, and I tell you what, neither did I.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t up writing late into the night as I first envisioned.

“Practically everybody in New York has half a mind to write a book – and does.” ~Groucho Marx

Sorry, Grouch, my man, I did but I didn’t. Unless two chapters is considered a book. That’s a stretch, even by children’s books’ standards!

Let’s face it, writing is introverted. I am not. NYC is definitely not. There are so many activities to do, people to see, bagels to be consumed, the last thing you want to do is go home early and finish a chapter.

Lucky for me, Sydney is a hell of a long way from the USA and I’ve written two chapters, two articles and two blog posts in my four hours at LA airport. Working double time and twice as hard to play catch up? Shh…don’t tell my publisher.

But I wrote more than I have done in a while, though less than I expected. And Sydney will seem slower-paced than NYC in comparison. NYC has one speed, and that’s “manic”. While I told myself every excuse under the sun (Vegas = I don’t have a lot of time here; Atlanta = too many people to see; NYC = too many things to do), these caveats won’t be posed in Sydney as I ease into normal life. (I do have to move house though…and I haven’t seen my friends in a long time…and it’s summer beach weather…)

My four week solo trip has been whirlwind, and I will enjoy the comfort of a slower pace of life (starting with my return to my day job).

And a bit of proof. Writing at LAX airport.

And a bit of proof. Writing at LAX airport.
