Hungarian in Double Bay
H is for Hungarian
Twenty One, 21 Knox St, Double Bay, Sydney, Australia
Organised by DANIEL on Sunday lunch, September 2009
7 hungry, hungry hippos
“Now time to play the waitng game….oh, the waiting game sucks!!! Let’s play hungry, hungry hippos!”
The Originals (minus Alanna), Dan, Nat, Ari, and Sez.
Hotplates
Because it was brunch, lunch and breakfast for various people, it was hard not to look at some of the typical breakfast choices [having said that, I almost slapped Sez when she said she wanted a croissant and coffee].
Stand outs: matzah ball soup, honeyed beef, various dumplings. Chesnut puree for dessert was … interesting.
How’d it go
6.5/10
Pros – Yummy food . Beautiful suburb, perfect for a sunny day’s outing. Helpful, affable waiter in choosing traditional Hungarian dishes though.
Cons – The patronage [very Rotary Club, as is the décor]. Nat almost killing me with her cherry strudel with a rogue walnut. Another waiter scoffing at Daniel’s Hungarian background because the surname of Kelen was not Hungarian enough (at least, that’s the impression we got from the huffing and smirking).
After-party antics
The windy weather blew our plans to fly a kites near Double Bay waters out the window. So back to my place for Guitar Hero World Tour. It was decided then that karaoke must be on the menu for “I”.
